Eliminate Single Sided Thermal Laminating Problems with Barrier Film

Single sided thermal laminating can create serious problems. If sheets are not as wide as the thermal laminating film, or if there is a gap between sheets being fed into the laminator, the exposed adhesive on the laminating film can contact the lower heated roller. This can cause adhesive build up on the heated rollers and can cause the laminating film to wrap around the heated rollers. Either way, the result is a mess resulting in unnecessary down time and wasted materials.

THERM-O-TYPE sells two types of barrier film, specifically manufactured to eliminate these single sided thermal laminating problems. Barrier film can match the width of the laminating film or be slightly wider. The barrier film is mounted where a lower roll of laminating film would mount and it threaded through the laminator just like laminating film. Laminating film is then mounted and threaded in the top position of the laminator.

If narrow sheets are fed through the laminator, or if sheets are fed with a gap between sheets, the thermal laminating film can NOT contact the bottom heated roller due to the barrier film.

After laminating, the barrier film is easily stripped away, leaving a single sided laminated web.

THERM-O-TYPE sells coated and uncoated barrier film.

The only time coated barrier film is normally used is if there are toner image areas on the back side of the sheets being laminated. In this situation, using coated barrier film will prevent the toner from sticking to the film.

In all other cases, less expensive, uncoated barrier film can be used.

Coated and uncoated barrier films are available in widths up to twenty four inches wide by five hundred feet long. All barrier films are sold on 1 inch cores.
