Until the introduction of the MP
Series slitters in 1993, the THERM-O-TYPE SL-12 Business Card Slitter was the slitter of
choice for most business card wholesalers. Powered by a DC motor with full speed control,
the SL-12 can slit up to 120,000 finished cards per hour with hairline accuracy. Nine pairs
of spring loaded scissor cut blades are mounted on large diameter steel shafts. The large diameter of the
blade shafts assures minimal flexing, reducing the chance of blade or shaft damage if
there is ever a paper jam, and also improving blade life. Like all THERM-O-TYPE production
slitters, the SL-12 uses an exterior drive which is easy to service and features a unique
double gearbelt drive. While competitive slitters use inexpensively formed sheet metal
blades, which are susceptible to chipping, THERM-O-TYPE SL, GLS, MP and MPX slitters use a
thick, machined and ground, blade which can be resharpened. This blade is almost
impossible to chip through normal operation and is very durable. Gripper and tail trim is
deposited into a removable canvas bag mounted within the steel cabinet. Friction feeder,
alignment table and the patented fan out section are similar to those used on the GLS
model. The slow delivery conveyor on the SL-12 is 36" long and features full length
partitions between each row of cards.
Although superseded, in high production shops, by the MP-12, the
SL-12 slitter is an excellent machine for medium demand wholesale and in-plant business
card manufacturers.
